Free education in Estonia

Estonia is a country in the Baltic region of Northern Europe. It is bordered to the north by the Gulf of Finland, to the west by the Baltic Sea, to the south by Latvia (343 km), and to the east by Lake Peipus and Russia (338.6 km).Across the Baltic Sea lies Sweden in the west and Finland to the north. Estonia is a developed country with an advanced, high-income economy that is among the fastest growing in the EU. Its Human Development Index ranks very highly, and it performs favorably in measurements of economic freedom, civil liberties and press freedom (3rd in the world in 2012 and 2007). The 2015 PISA test places Estonian high school students 3rd in the world, behind Singapore and Japan.

 

Academic higher education in Estonia is divided into three levels: bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral studies. In some specialties (basic medical studies, veterinary, pharmacy, dentistry, architect-engineer, and a classroom teacher program) the bachelor’s and master’s levels are integrated into one unit. Many Estonian universities offer tuition free for both Estonians and international students, and other programs that are not free are relatively cheap compared to other European countries. So what are the requirements to gain admission to Estonian universities?

Bachelors degree :(BBA, BA & BSC)

High school / secondary education (or higher)

The entry qualification documents are accepted in the following languages: English / Estonian.

Often you can get a suitable transcript from your school. If this is not the case, you will need official translations along with verified copies of the original.

Finnish secondary education diplomas are accepted in the original language

It is required that you send verified copies of the entry qualification documents directly to the university by postal mail, according to the instructions given by the institution. Important! Never send original documents by post!

 

IELTS (Academic)- a minimum overall grade of 5.5, with 5.5 or above in each element.
TOEFL (iBT)- a minimum total score 72, with listening 17 or above, reading 18 or above, speaking 20 or above, writing 17 or above.
Cambridge First Certificate in English (FCE)- grade A or B.
Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE)- grade A, B or C.
Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE)- grade A, B or C.
Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE A)- total score 51 or above.

Other requirements
A motivation letter must be added to your application.
Moodle online multiple choice test ( consists of multiple choice questions which evaluate candidate’s basic knowledge of mathematics, physics, and chemistry)
Skype interview will be conducted to candidates who have passed Moodle online multiple choice test.

Specific requirements for Non-EU applicants:
Students who require a visa for entry to Estonia will have to apply separately for a Temporary Residence Permit at their local Estonian Embassy.

MBA, MA & MSC.
Undergraduate diploma (or higher)

IELTS 5+ or TOEFL 500+ (computer-based 173+) or iBT 61+

If the university needs additional proof of your language skills, you need to be ready to make an online language test (information sent to an applicant personally).

PHD.

Postgraduate diploma (or higher)

Admission requirements: magistrikraad (Master’s degree) or corresponding qualification.

Candidates are expected to send their paper documents to the higher education institution of their first preference.

Accepted proof of proficiency: Cambridge English, IELTS, TOEFL or other equivalents

– A recent* TOEFL Certificate: only Internet-based test scores are accepted, with the minimum score being 61.
The result must be sent directly to the University by the Educational Testing Service.
– Or a recent* IELTS Certificate with minimum score being 5.0;
– Or a recent* First Certificate in English of the University of Cambridge;
– Or, in case of previous studies in English, the diploma together with a transcript of records, where the medium of instruction is specified.

*no more than two years’ old.

 

Other requirements

A motivation letter must be added to your application
Doctoral thesis project – recognized by the supervisor at Estonian University of Life Sciences.
